In my initial post I stated what my OS was and asked my questions but seemed to get peculiar replies as well as accusations.

MrPlow you explained everything I had been asking clearly and succinctly. Leaving the disk in an incosistant state will only cause further issues over time. If you do nothing else get the disk repaired, either by yourself or take it to an Apple store. Once back in OSX re-run Onyx and let it do it's thing. Once disk utility has finished running and completed the repair you cancel out and reboot into OSX normally. You're just booting from the disc so that Disk Utility (a copy of which is on every OSX DVD) can have a go at repairing the hard drive without having to try and run OSX at the same time. So there are no concerns here about regressing the OS to an old version etc. This involves booting from your OSX disc and running Disk Utility to repair the disk.
USING ONYX FOR MAC HOW TO
When you ran it it's basically saying "I can't do anything further until the disk issues are resolved" It then goes on to tell you how to do this. If you do see this let me just offer a little help. But it's not always easy to interpret an issue remotely. They may not always be the answers you want. People can only respond to the information given. Is Onyx still the best way forward to sort out my system ? Sorry for being so stupid and not having marked all the Installation discs when I got them. I have Version 10.6.1-labelled as 'Disc version 1.0' and dated 2009Īnd Version 10.6.4 - labelled as 'Disc version 5.0' and dated 2010 I wondered if anyone could help me by suggesting which Installation disc it's likely to be - please !?
USING ONYX FOR MAC MAC OS X
Intel Core I5 which is running perfectly and also displays that it's running Mac OS X V.10.6.8. I also have the newer 27 model I bought last May with 2.7 GHz proc. I bought this iMac 27 on Jan.11th 2010-it's the older model with 3.06GHz Intel Core Duo and states it's running Mac OS X V.10.6.8. Will it cause a problem if I insert the incorrect Mac OS X install disc ? Problem is - I'm not the most organised person and having several iMacs I am not sure which Install and Applications discs go with each machine. The 1st stage of Onyx stated 'The Volume needs to be repaired-start up from your Mac OS X Install disc-then choose Utilities>Disk Utility' Also - am unable to re-install Vuze which I suspect may be down to The Java preferences not being up to date. I decided to use Onyx this morning as I suspected things weren't running smoothly with my iMac 27 - after installing updates I just get a continuous blue screen and have to pull out the power plug to reset.
